CHARLESTON, Carolina del Sur (Noticias) – Local Spanish News website, Nuestro Estado, has partnered with DHEC to bring free COVID-19 drive-thru testing to Johns Island.

Nuestro Estado is officially hosting the community event, while DHEC will be conducting the COVID-19 testing.

The event will be held at Haut Gap Middle School between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at 1861 Bohicket Rd., Johns Island, 29455.

Residents will access services while remaining in their car. The National Guard will be present to assist with traffic.

Latinx and Black communities have been hard hit by COVID-19 and the lack of resources has made access to testing difficult.

Nuestro Estado, has also partnered with some businesses to provide a reusable tote filled with some essential items such as:

  • Masks
  • Toilet Paper
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Facial tissues
  • Produce
  • Among other items.

Residents do not need:

  • An appointment
  • A referral
  • Health insurance

If you have an ID, you are advised to bring it, but it is NOT a requirement for testing.

The most important piece of this event for Nuestro Estado is that the rural communities of the Sea Islands have access to free COVID-19 testing with as minimal hassle possible.
