Charleston Battery Begins Conor Casey Era Victorious 1-0 Against FC Tulsa

CHARLESTON, SC – Despite the cold weather Charleston showed up for the The Charleston Battery v FC Tulsa home opener at Patriots Point.

The Black and Yellow got off to a fast start with a goal at 10′ by forward Augustine Williams, who is a newcomer from the LA Galaxy. However, this quick start was not a sign of things to come, as the match quickly turned into a defensive struggle.

FC Tulsa, perhaps frustrated by the cold weather and their even colder offensive attack, tried to change the course of the game with physical play in the second half. However, this backfired as Rodrigo da Costa was sent off at the 56 minute mark after receiving a red card.

In addition to FC Tulsa having to play down a man for the remainder of the match, it also took away a key weapon since da Costa has been a key fixture in Tulsa’s lineup since first arriving in 2019.

The Conor Casey era officially begins as the former U.S. Men’s National Team standout coaches his first regular season match at Patriots Point.
