CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery, in collaboration with Volvo Car USA, unveiled the club’s new alternate jersey for the 2022 season on Tuesday.
The new shirt, dubbed the Recharge Kit, takes inspiration from Charleston’s iconic coastline through topographic patterning prominently featured in the backlit decor of Volvo Cars’ pure electric C40 Recharge.
The alternate uniform will be used as the Battery’s third kit, marking a celebration of the collaboration with Volvo Car USA and will be worn by players at select matches during the 2022 season. The new kits will make their debut at Patriots Point on April 6 when the Battery host South Georgia Tormenta FC in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
“We’re thrilled to unveil our third kit design in collaboration with Volvo Car USA,” said Battery President of Business Operations Scott Krenitski. “We couldn’t think of a better way to bring back our alternate jerseys than with a design that highlights Charleston and both organizations’ commitment to the community.”
In addition to the topographical elements, the shirt features accents that are a nod to Volvo Cars’ safety legacy and the “high-visibility” orange worn by employees at their Charleston plant. The new kit completes the trio of new uniforms redesigned for the Battery’s 30th season and underlines Volvo Car USA’s sponsorship of the club.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to feature our unique C40 Recharge design on the Battery club uniform,” said Jim Raggi, Head of the Southern Region for Volvo Car USA. “We hope the collaborative design underscores our pride in being part of the Charleston community and dedication to responsible stewardship of the local area.”
Fans can be the first to purchase the new kit in-person this Friday when the Battery take on Las Vegas Lights FC at Patriots Point for the Holy City vs. Sin City at 7 p.m. ET. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with a pre-match party featuring happy hour drink specials, a live DJ, giveaways and more.
